Elizabethan Era (1533-1603)
The English Elizabethan Era is one of the most prominent periods in the History of England. The Elizabethan Era is named after great Queen Elizabeth 1, though this amazing era is not only famous for just Queen Elizabeth herself. This time period brought about great explorers such as Sir Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh, and the first appearance of theaters in England!

Sir Francis Drake- This man was a seaman, explorer, and a pirate. He is mostly famous for circumnavigating the globe and helping defeat the Spanish Armada
Sir Walter Raleigh- He was a poet, statesman, explorer, and courtier. He was famous for establishing the first colony in America and importing tobacco to England.
William Shakespeare- Shakespeare was a famous poet, playwright, dramatist, and actor. He is arguably known as the best writer in history.
Sir Thomas Wyatt- This man was famous for leading the Wyatt rebellion against the Catholic Queen Mary.
Sir Francis Bacon- He was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist, lawyer, jurist, and author. He is most known for his scientific inquiry known as The Baconian Method.
The Age of Exploration
Throughout the Elizabethan era the Age of exploration was still going on. At first it was dominated by the Portuguese and the Spanish, but later on saw the emergence of important English explorers such as Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Humphrey Gilbert, Sir Francis Drake, Sir John Hawkins, Sir Richard Grenville, and Sir Martin Frobisher. As the thirst for wealth, pride, power, and colonies discovering new territory became more important. During the Elizabethan Era English explorers accomplished a lot including; Sir Walter Raleigh discovered Guiana and established the Virginia Colony; Sir Humphrey Gilbert established St.Johns, Newfoundland; Sir Richard Grenville voyaged to Virginia and Roanoke Island; Sir John Hawkins voyaged to West Africa and South America; Sir Martin Frobisher voyaged to Labrador and Greenland; Henry Hudson discovered the Hudson River.
